AFSLI Conference 2025: Call for Abstracts

About the Conference

The African Federation of Sign Language Interpreters (AFSLI), in collaboration with the Rwanda National Union of Sign Language Interpreters (RNUSLI), invites interpreters, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and advocates to submit abstracts for the AFSLI Conference 2025. This event will explore the critical role of sign language interpretation in fostering inclusivity across African societies.

Themes & Topics

We welcome submissions on (but not limited to) the following topics:

• The Role of Sign Language Interpreters in Diverse Settings: Challenges & Opportunities
• Professionalization of Sign Language Interpretation in Africa: Ethical Considerations & Best Practices
• Technology and Innovation in Sign Language Interpretation
• Policy and Advocacy for Sign Language Rights in Africa
• Sign Language Interpreter Training: African Perspectives
• AI and Sign Language Interpreting

Submission Guidelines

We accept 30-minute presentations or poster presentations. Submit your abstract (maximum 500 words in MS Word or PDF format) or a 3-minute video in Rwandan Sign Language or International Sign, including:

• Name of Presenter / Co-Presenters
• Title of Presentation
• Brief Description
• Format: Poster or Presentation
• Presentation Language: Rwandan Sign Language, English, or International Sign

Note: Presentations in other national signed languages may be considered if International Sign or spoken English is not used.
